The last production model of the B-25, often called a cross between the B-25C and the B-25H. It had a transparent nose, but many of the delivered aircraft were modified to have a solid nose. Most of its 14–18 machine guns were forward-facing for strafing missions.

The Vought F4U Corsair was a carrier-capable fighter aircraft that saw service primarily in World War II and the Korean War. Demand for the aircraft soon overwhelmed Vought’s manufacturing capability, resulting in production by Goodyear and Brewster: Goodyear-built Corsairs were designated FG and Brewster-built aircraft F3A. From the first prototype delivery to the U.S. Navy in 1940, to final delivery in 1953 to the French, 12,571 F4U Corsairs were manufactured by Vought, in 16 separate models, in the longest production run of any piston-engined fighter in U.S. history (1942–1953).

It might not seem as if gamers and members of the military have anything in common, but they actually do: a hunger for challenge and achievements. With gamers this manifests as a compulsion to complete 100% of a game’s content (even beyond just beating the game), but in the military it means gaining as many medals, qualifications, and ribbons as possible, along with increasing one’s rank.

This infographic from MilitaryEducation.org gives you an overview of the various achievements, medals, ribbons and ranks available to members of the US Army by highlighting the accomplishments of two standout Army veteran soldiers, Audie L. Murphy (the most decorated Army veteran of all time) and William D. Hawkins (who is well known for what he achieved while being severely outnumbered).

These carefully assembled examples of junk art, mostly in the form of robots, come by way of Bryan Marshall, an artist who obviously enjoys his craft. His Flickr photostream is filled with over two-years worth of his work. If you’re interested in purchasing some of his orphaned bots, be sure to check out his Etsy account. In Brian’s own words:

Creating robots is my obsession. The appreciation for how things fit together to create infinite new possibilities began innocently enough long ago with Lincoln Logs, Legos, and Erector Sets. Many hours were spent creating colossal contraptions imagined as part of my alternate universe.

Each robot is constructed almost entirely from reused materials. These materials are cleaned and polished to varying degrees depending on the persona I am attempting to achieve. Even the nuts and bolts that are used to hold together each creation are from a recycler. With simple, fun designs that contain easily recognizable pieces, it is my hope that viewers will not only find a personality to connect with, but that they will also see the value of and possibilities for reducing, reusing and recycling in our world today.
